Many manufacturers are facing the challenge of running complex processes with a smaller and much less experienced workforce than just 5 years ago. This is a very difficult challenge and can lead to many problems such as lower quality products, more waste, higher energy costs, and less efficient processes.
However, if you take the approach of adopting a data infrastructure as a core asset, where the data from both old and new assets are collected, organized, and contextualized, it is much easier to aggregate this data and build insightful tools on top of the data. This approach is applicable if your process is continuous, batch, discrete, or some combination of these three types of processes. These tools can act as the “translation” between the soon to be retired workforce and the up and coming workforce.
