Never before has a utility demonstrated the ability to manage thousands of front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including solar, wind, batteries, and thermal generators to provide reliable and quality energy to its customers.

This session will unpack Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS):
Leading the renewable energy transformation with DERMS involves technical capabilities like deploying an IEEE 2030.5 compliant server for control and monitoring of DERs (of which PXiSE is the first company to receive SunSpec certification for). The PXiSE DERMS solution also provides autonomous forecasting, optimization, network modeling, and condition-based scheduling of DER, all configured on a software infrastructure based on the PI System, and capable of integrating with any existing utility system. This session will cover the key aspects of a complex and comprehensive utility DERMS deployment. Attendees will receive the information they need to consider different aspects of DERMS capabilities and standards.

About the Presenter
Kevin Walsh is OSIsoft LLC’s Industry Principal for Transmission and Distribution. He has over 20 years of experience in the Utility space covering areas in Demand Side Management (DSM), Retail Operations; software supporting central markets, complex billing, Meter Data Management, and smart grid applications such as DER, Microgrids, and PMUs. He works with product management/development to support new functionality in his area of responsibility and field sales for applying the PI technology to assist in the new Utility challenges that many of them face. Mr. Walsh previously worked at SAP and AREVA T&D. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Mr. Christopher joined PXiSE in 2017 and was also a contributor to PXiSE during his time at OSIsoft. Mr. Christopher was instrumental in developing the core PXiSE technology, and in implementing PXiSE Advanced Control Technology at the Pacific Island Wind Farm. In his current role at PXiSE, he continues to ensure the product is engineered to meet the business requirements of PXiSE customers.
Prior to working for PXiSE, Mr. Christopher spent more than 6 years at OSIsoft, becoming technically proficient in the PI System and its applications to business challenges in several industries.
Mr. Christopher also has a diverse engineering background that includes work with GridPoint to develop smart grid solutions for utilities, and with Navigant Consulting to provide engineering analysis for the Department of Energy.
Mr. Christopher received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
